# iPhone and iPad app (/docs/guides/ios-app)

The eReader Relay app for iPhone and iPad sends one public web page at a time to your default
destination: an eReader, which receives an EPUB by email, or a reading list, which collects
articles for its next edition. It uses your eReader Relay account; you manage sources, devices,
reading lists, and your plan on [ereaderrelay.com](https://ereaderrelay.com).

## Install [#install]

The app is coming to the App Store. Until it is published, it is available to invited testers
only. It needs iOS 16.4 or later and an internet connection.

## Sign in [#sign-in]

1. Open the app and tap **Sign in**.
2. Sign in to eReader Relay in the browser sheet that opens. Your password stays with the website;
   the app never sees it.
3. Tap **Allow app** to approve mobile app access.

The app returns to the **Send** tab, signed in. If you do not have an account yet, create one on
the website first.

## Choose where links go [#choose-where-links-go]

Open the **Destinations** tab and pick one destination. Everything you send, from the app or the
share sheet, goes there until you change it.

* **eReaders** receive each link as its own EPUB by email. On the Free plan you can pick one eReader
at a time; paid plans can send to several at once.
* **Reading lists** collect links for the list's next edition. Only active reading lists appear;
resume a paused list on the website to see it here.

Pull down on the tab to reload your eReaders and reading lists after changing them on the website.
To add an eReader, use **Add an eReader**, which opens [Devices](/docs/guides/devices) on the
website. Kindle users must first [approve the Relay sender](/docs/guides/kindle-approved-sender).

## Send a link from the app [#send-a-link-from-the-app]

1. On the **Send** tab, paste or type a link.
2. Check **Sending to** shows the destination you want.
3. Tap **Send it**.

A card confirms the send, and it appears under **Recently sent**. If the page has no title of its
own in the link, Relay uses the article's title once it has read the page.

## Share from Safari and other apps [#share-from-safari-and-other-apps]

1. In Safari or any app with a **Share** button, open the page and tap **Share**.
2. Choose **eReader Relay** in the row of apps, or **Send to eReader Relay** in the list of
actions below it. If neither appears, scroll to the end of the row and tap **More**, or tap
**Edit Actions…**, and turn eReader Relay on.
3. The sheet confirms where the link went. Tap **Done**, or let it close.

The share sheet sends to your default destination without opening the app. It works only while the
app is signed in and a destination is chosen. Sends from the share sheet appear in the app's
**Recently sent** list the next time you open it.

## Follow what you sent [#follow-what-you-sent]

**Recently sent** keeps the last five links sent from this phone, with where each one went and how
it is getting on. While the app is open, it checks each queued EPUB for up to an hour.

| Status | What it means |
| --------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Saved | The link is in the reading list and will be in its next edition. |
| Queued | Relay accepted the link and will build the EPUB shortly. |
| Building | Relay is reading the page and building the EPUB. |
| Delivered | The EPUB was emailed to your eReader. Your device may take a few minutes. |
| In your library | The EPUB was built and is in your [library](/docs/guides/epub-library), but was not emailed. |
| Not delivered | The page could not be read, or the email could not be sent. |

"Delivered" means the email service accepted the EPUB. If it never arrives on a Kindle, check the
approved sender, then see [Delivery troubleshooting](/docs/troubleshooting/delivery).

## Settings [#settings]

The **Settings** tab shows your account and plan, your default destination, and the appearance:
follow your phone (**System**), or always **Light** or **Dark**. **Help** links to these guides,
email support, and [Privacy and your data](/docs/support/ios-app-privacy).

Plans and billing are managed on the website; the iOS app does not sell or link to plans.

## Sign out [#sign-out]

In **Settings**, tap **Sign out**. Signing out removes the session from the phone, stops the share
sheet from sending, and clears **Recently sent**. It does not delete your account, reading lists,
devices, or library books.

## Delete your account [#delete-your-account]

In **Settings**, tap **Delete account**. It opens the account deletion page on the website, where
you confirm with your account email. Deleting removes your account, reading lists, devices and
library books, and cancels any subscription. See
[Delete your account](/docs/guides/account-security#delete-your-account).

For problems, see [iPhone and iPad app troubleshooting](/docs/troubleshooting/ios-app).
